Carbamide peroxide

A topical antiseptic. It is also useful in ear wax removal.

Carbamide peroxide, which is available as a solution, gel, or ear drops without a prescription under many brand names, has many uses. It is used as a disinfectant for minor mouth irritations such as canker sores, and it has a deodorant effect as a result of its ability to inhibit bacteria that cause odor. Carbamide peroxide is found in products that remove ear wax from the ear canal, and it is used as a bleach in hair products. When carbamide peroxide comes in contact with bacteria, a chemical reaction occurs in which oxygen and hydrogen are released in bubbles (fizzing). Once the fizzing stops, the product is no longer effective.
