Carotenaemia

An excessive amount of carotene in the blood, usually as a result of eating too many carrots or tomatoes, which gives the skin a yellow colour.

Carotenaemia is a harmless condition that occurs when blood levels of carotene, an orange pigment found in certain vegetables, become very high due to excessive consumption of these foods. This condition may result in temporary yellowing of the skin, particularly on the palms and soles. Unlike jaundice, carotenaemia does not cause yellowing of the whites of the eyes.
