  • Alcoholuria

    A condition in which alcohol is present in the urine. The presence of alcohol in the urine. The detection of alcohol in urine, known as alcoholuria, is the foundation for tests used to assess a driver’s capacity to safely operate a vehicle after consuming alcohol.

  • Alcoholic cirrhosis

    Cirrhosis of the liver caused by alcoholism. Liver enlargement, fatty deposits, and fibrosis due to chronic ethanol abuse. Cirrhosis resulting from chronic liver damage by alcoholism. Approx. 20% of chronic alcoholics develop cirrhosis.  

  • Alcoholic cardiomyopathy

    A disease of the heart muscle arising as a result of long-term heavy alcohol consumption. Heart muscle damage caused by years of heavy alcohol usage. Affected patients have enlarged (dilated) hearts and left ventricular failure. Abstinence from alcohol may halt or reverse the course of the illness in some individuals.  

  • Alcohol-fast

    Referring to an organ stained for testing which is not dis-coloured by alcohol.  

  • Alcohol addiction

    A condition in which a person is dependent on the use of alcohol.
