  • Alternative futures

    A method used by futurists to identify and forecast possible scenarios based on current trends.  

  • Alternative education

    An educational program consisting of unconventional experiences for learners who are inadequately served or taught in regular classes. Alternatives include schools without walls, street academies, free schools, and second-chance schools, alternative school.

    In epidemiology, a statistical statement that expresses a relationship between two or more variables.

    Possessing a tendency to have sympathy only with others who resemble self.  

  • Alpha waves

    Fairly regular EEG waves, between 8 and 12/s, characteristic of a relaxed, waking state, usually with eyes closed, alpha blocking; alpha rhythm. Brain waves typical of a person who is awake and at rest. An electroencephalographic deflection often generated by cells in the visual cortex of the brain.
