  • Carotid groove

    A broad groove on the inner surface of the sphenoid bone lateral to its body. It lodges the carotid artery and the cavernous sinus.  

  • Complicated grieving

    A disorder that occurs after the death of a significant other, in which the experience of distress accompanying bereavement fails to follow normative expectations and manifests in functional impairment. This diagnosis was previously titled, “grieving, dysfunctional”.  

  • Coccidioidal granuloma

    A chronic, generalized granulomatous disease caused by the fungus Coccidioides immitis.  

  • Cone granule

    The nuclei of the cones, sensory cells of the retina. They form the outer zone of the outer nuclear layer of the retina.  

  • Cadaver graft

    Grafting tissue, including skin, cornea, or bone, obtained from a body immediately after death.  

  • Cable graft

    A nerve graft made up of bundles of segments from an unimportant nerve.  

  • Concentration gradient

    The difference in the amounts of a substance on either side of a membrane or in two areas of a biological system. Substances diffuse down a concentration gradient, from the area of higher concentration to lower concentration.  

  • Cystic goiter

    A goiter in which a cyst or cysts are formed, possibly resulting from the degeneration of tissue or liquefaction within an adenoma.  

  • Colloid goiter

    A goiter in which there is a great increase of the follicular contents.  

  • Capillary blood glucose

    The level of circulating blood glucose as measured by glucometer analysis of a fingerstick sample. Regular measurements of CBG allow diabetic patients toparticipate actively in their own health management.
