    In aviators or divers, decompression resulting from an extremely rapid rate of change to a much lesser pressure. This may occur if a high-altitude aircraft suddenly loses its cabin pressure or if a diver ascends rapidly. Either of these causes violent expansion of body gases.  

  • Epithelial debridement

    The removal of the entire epithelial lining or attachment epithelium from a periodontal pocket.  

  • Enzymatic debridement

    Use of proteolytic enzymes to remove dead tissue from a wound. The enzymes do not attack viable tissues.  

  • Exudation cyst

    A cyst caused by trapping of an exudate in a closed area. A cyst is a lump or swelling filled with fluid that develops when an existing body cavity becomes filled with exudate. An example of an exudation cyst is a hydrocele, which is a fluid-filled swelling occurring in the scrotum.

    A cyst arising from hemorrhage or escape of other body fluids into tissues.
