Estrogen receptor status
The presence or absence of a receptor to the hormone estrogen on breast cancer cells. Tumors that possess receptors either to estrogen alone or to both estrogen and progesterone are more responsive to estrogen-blocking agents such as tamoxifen than are tumors that lack these receptors.
