Excess fluid volume
The state in which an individual experiences increased isotonic fluid retention.

Extravascular fluid
All the body fluids outside the blood vessels. They include tissue fluid, fluids within the serous and synovial cavities, cerebrospinal fluid, and lymph.

Enterovaginal fistula
An abnormal canal between the bowel and vagina.

Efferent fiber
A nerve fiber that carries motor impulses from the central nervous system to effector organs.

Feeder
device used to introduce nutrition into the mouth of an infant who has difficulty eating, sucking, or swallowing (e.g., a child with a cleft lip or palate).

Endothoracic fascia
The fascia that separates the pleura of the lung from the inside of the thoracic cavity and the diaphragm.

A mediator released when mast cells are injured. This is in response to inflammation.

Edema factor
An enzyme made by Bacillus anthracis (the bacterium that causes anthrax). It causes the cellular and tissue swelling characteristic of anthrax infection.

Any suitable liquid used to rinse the eyes (e.g., sterile physiological saline or sterile water).

Goggles, plastic or glass face masks, or shatterproof glasses to prevent injury to the eye during work or play.
