Hymenectomy
The surgical removal of the hymen, or an operation to increase the size of the opening of the hymen. The surgical removal of any membrane. ln surgery and gynecology, the incision or removal of the hymen.

Hygroma
A kind of cyst which contains a thin fluid. A type of cyst. It may develop from a lymphangioma (cystic hygroma) or from the liquified remains of a subdural hematoma (subdural hygroma).

Hydroxide
A chemical compound containing a hydroxyl group. A compound that contains the OH¯ group, such as NaOH (sodium hydroxide, or caustic soda).

Hydrotubation
An act of putting a fluid through the neck of the uterus and the Fallopian tubes under pressure to check whether the tubes are blocked. Injection of saline solution or liquid medication into the uterus and fallopian tubes to dilate or treat them.

A discharge of watery fluid.

Hydropneumothorax
A condition in which watery fluid and gas collect in the pleural cavity. Air and fluid in the pleural cavity. If the patient is shaken the fluid makes a splashing sound (called a succussion splash). An effusion of serous fluid commonly complicates a pneumothorax, and must be drained.

An acid which forms cyanide. An intensely poisonous volatile acid that can cause death within a minute if inhaled.
