  • Infantile diarrhea

    Diarrhea in children under 2 years of age. Most commonly, it is caused by infectious enterocolitis due to rotavirus, Norwalk virus, or Escherichia coli.  

  • Intertuberous diameter

    The distance between the ischial tuberosities. Most commonly, this measure of the female pelvic outlet is greater than 9 cm, allowing the exit of an average-sized term fetus.  

  • Interspinous diameter

    The distance between the two anterior superior spines of the ilia.  

  • Intermittent peritoneal dialysis

    Dialysis using automated equipment, often performed overnight. The fluid is drained from the peritoneal cavity at the end of the treatment.  

  • In vitro diagnostic

    Any device, reagent, material, or system designed for use in the laboratory diagnosis of disease or health status. The term also refers to a general category of entities that are highly and specifically regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory bodies.  

  • Iatrogenic diabetes

    Diabetes mellitus brought on by administration of drugs such as corticosteroids, certain diuretics, or birth control pills.  

  • Intrauterine contraceptive device

    A copper or polypropylene artifact that is inserted into the uterine cavity to interfere with conception or implantation. The actual mechanism by which IUDs function is unclear. The estimated pregnancy rate is between 2% and 4%.  

  • Input device

    In assistive technology, the apparatus that activates an electronic device. This can be a manual switch, a remote control, or a joystick.  

  • Impaired dentition

    Disruption in tooth development/eruption patterns or structural integrity of individual teeth.  

  • Interglobular dentin

    Dentin that contains spaces or hypomineralized areas between mineralized globules or calcospherites.
