  • Isodactylism

    A congenital defect in which all the fingers are the same length.  

  • Isoaminile

    A drug administered in capsules and linctuses to suppress coughs. Rarely, it may cause dizziness, nausea, constipation, and diarrhea.  

  • Isoagglutinin

    One of the antibodies occurring naturally in the plasma that cause agglutination of red blood cells of a different group. An antibody in a serum that agglutinates the blood cells of those of the same species from which it is derived. The component in blood serum responsible for causing isoagglutination.  

  • Islet

    A small group of cells that is structurally distinct from the cells surrounding it.  

  • Island

    An area of tissue or group of cells clearly differentiated from surrounding tissues. A structure detached from surrounding tissues or characterized by difference in structure; an islet.  

  • Iron dextran

    A drug containing iron and dextran, administered by intramuscular or intravenous injection to treat iron-deficiency anemia. Side-effects can include pain at the site of injection, rapid beating of the heart, and allergic reactions.  

  • Iris bombe

    An abnormal condition of the eye in which the iris bulges forward toward the cornea.   • Iridodonesis

    Tremulousness of the iris when the eye is moved. It is due to absence of support from the lens, against which the iris normally lies, and occurs when the lens is absent or dislocated from its normal position.  

  • Iprindole

    A drug administered by mouth for the! treatment of depression. Response may take place gradually, and side-effects, such as dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and sweating, may occur.  

  • Iophendylate

    A radio-opaque iodine-containing compound that is sometimes used in radiography to show up the spinal canal. It is injected through a lumbar puncture needle. A radiopaque contrast medium used in myelography.
