  • Immunise

    To give someone immunity from an infection.  

  • Immunisation

    The process of making a person immune to an infection, either by injecting an antiserum, passive immunization or by inoculation. The introduction of antigens into a body to produce immunity. The following table gives the immunization programme recommended by the UK departments of health.  

  • Immune reaction

    A reaction of a body to an antigen. A demonstrated antigenic response to a specific antibody. A response that indicates the existence of an antibody.

    A lack of immunity to a disease.

    Protected against an infection or allergic disease. Protected from and not susceptible to a disease, especially an infectious disease. Protected against a particular infection by the presence of specific antibodies against the organisms concerned.   • Immovable

    Referring to a joint which cannot be moved.  

  • Immobilise

    To keep someone from moving. To attach a splint to a joint or fractured limb to prevent the bones from moving.  

  • Immobilisation

    The act of preventing somebody or something from being able to move.  

  • Immobile

    Not moving, which cannot move.  

  • Immiscible

    (Of liquids) not able to be mixed. Incapable of mixing, such as oil and water. To that which cannot be mixed, as oil and water. Liquids that are not capable of being mixed together to form stable solutions.
