  • Kinesigenic

    Said of certain involuntary body movements, triggered by voluntary muscular activity.

    A device for testing the refraction of the eye. A slit of variable width moves as the patient observes a fixed object.  

  • Kimmelstiel-Wilson syndrome

    A syndrome that may develop in patients in whom diabetes mellitus has been present for several years. Hypertension, glomerulonephrosis, edema, and retinal lesions are present; arteriosclerosis of the renal artery is a common complication.  

  • Kilovoltage peak

    The highest voltage occurring during an electrical cycle. The pinnacle of kilovoltage reached during any moment within the cyclical oscillations of a sine wave.  

  • Kilogram mete

    The work required to raise one kilogram one meter.  

  • Kilocycle

    One thousand cycles; previous name for kilohertz. A magnitude of one thousand cycles, interpreted as denoting a frequency of thousands of cycles per second.  

  • Kilobase

    Unit indicating the length of a nucleic acid sequence. One kb is 1000 nucleotide sequences long.  

  • Kiesselbach’s area

    A rich network of veins on the anteroinferior portion of the nasal septum. Because of its abundant supply of capillaries, it is a common site of nosebleed.  

  • Keystone area

    The junction of the perpendicular portion of the ethmoid bones with the nasal septum.  

  • Ketosuria

    Presence of ketone bodies in the urine.
