  • Kjeldahl method

    Chemical method for determining the nitrogen content of foods and animal tissues. The quantity of nitrogen is multiplied by 6.25 to obtain the approximate protein content of the sample (6.25 is an average conversion factor). Specific foods and specific tissues may have different conversion factors.

  • Ketorolac tromethamine

    A nonsteroid anti-inflammatory analgesic drug. Nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory agent used either orally or parenterally to treat moderate to severe pain. Potential side effects include gastritis, intestinal bleeding, exacerbation of asthma, and hyperkalemia.  

  • Ketoprofin

    A nonsteroid anti-inflammatory; this drug is a nonopioid analgesic and an antipyretic.  

  • Ketonemia

    A condition characterized by excessive levels of ketones in the blood. Rising levels of blood ketones increase the need for buffering power since they tend to lower pH.   • Ketogenic amino acids

    Amino acids that, when catabolized, yield ketones. These include leucine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, lysine, threonine, and tryptophan.  

  • Keto acid

    Used in the treatment of chronic renal failure; produced by the replacement of an amino group with a keto group to decrease the nitrogen load in the body. Any organic acid containing the ketone CO (carbonyl radical).
