  • Magnification factor

    Image size divided by object size; a quantitative expression of the degree of enlargement of an image. In radiography, it is the ratio of the source-to-image-receptor distance to the source-to-object distance.  

  • Myopathic facies

    The facies due to muscular relaxation. The lids drop and the lips protrude.  

  • Masklike facies

    An expressionless face with little or no animation, seen in parkinsonism.  

  • Multiple osteocartilaginous exostosis

    A hereditary growth disorder marked by the development of multiple exostoses, usually on the diaphyses of long bones near the epiphyseal lines. It causes irregular growth of the epiphyses and often secondary deformities.  

  • Muscle excitability

    In a muscle fiber, the inducibility to contract. This is a function of the chemical and electrical state of the sarcolemma and the time since a previous stimulus was applied.  

  • Material evidence

    In medicolegal considerations, facts or evidence important to proving or disproving matters of dispute.  

  • Measurement error

    The difference between the true value of something being measured and the value obtained by measurement. Measurement error can be the result of one or more of several different factors, including operational blunders, random error, and systematic error.  

  • Mesenchymal epithelium

    Squamous epithelium that lines the subarachnoid and subdural cavities, the chambers of the eye, and the perilymphatic spaces of the ear.  

  • Mucolytic enzyme

    An enzyme that depolymerizes mucus by splitting mucoproteins. Examples are lysozyme and hyaluronidase.  

  • Medical entomology

    The branch of entomology that deals with insects and their relationship to disease, especially of humans.
