  • Mixed dentition

    A set of both primary and permanent teeth, as in children between 6 and 13 years of age.  

  • Microvessel density

    The concentration of small blood vessels in a malignant tumor. It reflects the amount of angiogenesis within the tumor and has been correlated with the ability of tumors to grow and metastasize.  

  • Mucous degeneration

    Deposition of mucus in the connective tissue of organs or in epithelial cells.  

  • Manual defibrillator

    A defibrillator that requires the operator to assess the need for defibrillation (by reviewing monitor data and the patient’s clinical condition), select an energy level, charge the machine, and deliver shock.  

  • Malignant deciduitis

    A uterine tumor, now commonly called a choriocarcinoma.  

  • Mechanical debridement

    The removal of necrotic or devitalized tissue from a wound using friction, hydrotherapy, scraping, or wet-to-dry dressings.  

  • Mechanical dead

    The volume of gas exhaled into a tubing system and rebreathed on the subsequent breath.  

  • Mother cyst

    A hydatid cyst enveloping smaller ones.  

  • Meniscus cyst

    A fluid-filled cyst often associated with a degenerative horizontal meniscal tear, more frequently seen in the lateral meniscus of the knee. This ganglion-like cyst may present with a palpable mass at the joint line of the knee and can be visualized by magnetic resonance imaging.  

  • Membranous croup

    Inflammation of the larynx with exudation forming a false membrane.
