  • Matrilineal

    A kinship system in which family ties and succession are traced through the mother and her female ancestors, patrilineal. To or affecting inheritance from the mothers in a family, but not the fathers.  

  • Matriarchy

    In sociology, the control of the family or other groups by the female, patriarchy.

    A strain of organisms in which they cannot reproduce with themselves but are able to reproduce with others of different strains, but within the same species.

    A general term referring to the development of the placenta and other tissues specifically associated with pregnancy.
