Mylohyoid ridge
Horizontal bony extension on the lingual aspect of the mandibular premolars and molars that is an attachment for the mylohyoid muscle which forms the floor of the mouth. The line of attachment on the medial aspect of the body of the mandible for the mylohyoid muscle, which forms the floor of the mouth.

Mylohyoid region
An obsolete term that refers to the area on the lingual surface of the mandible that contains the mylohyoid ridge and the attachment of the mylohyoid muscle. It is part of the alveololingual sulcus.

Mylohyoid groove or canal
Groove (indentation) on the medial surface of the ramus of the mandible beginning at the lingula; it houses the mylohyoid artery and nerve. The groove on the inner surface of the mandible that runs obliquely forward and downward and contains the mylohyoid nerve and artery. In the embryo it lodges Meckel’s cartilage.

Mutually protected articulation
An occlusal scheme where all the posterior teeth disocclude during mandibular movements while the occlusion is supported by the anterior teeth. At maximum intercuspation, the posterior teeth reduce the occlusal forces applied on the anterior teeth so the forces applied on the anterior teeth are not excessive.
