  • Orotic aciduria

    A rare, autosomal recessive disorder of pyrimidine metabolism in which orotic acid accumulates in the body. Clinically, children fail to grow and have megaloblastic anemia and leukopenia. The disease responds to administration of uridine or cytidine.

    An acid containing the carboxyl radical, -COOH. Acetic acid, formic acid, lactic acid, and all fatty acids are organic.
