Pulvinar
The part of the thalamus comprising a portion of the posterior nuclei. It projects posteriorly and medially, partially overlying the midbrain.

The crushing of any substance to powder or tiny particles.

Pulsus parvus et tardus
A pulse that is small and rises and falls slowly, indicative of severe aortic stenosis.

Pulsus differens
A condition in which the pulses on either side of the body are of unequal intensity. It is seen sometimes in aortic dissection, or in atherosclerotic obstruction of one of the subclavian arteries.

Pulsus celer
A quick pulse that rises and falls suddenly.

Driving or propelling in any direction.

Pulsing electromagnetic field
An alternating electrical current used to produce an electromagnetic field. This may induce healing when applied to a fractured bone. The field is applied noninvasively to the affected limb. It may be moderately helpful in treating bony nonunion.

Pulseless electrical activity
A form of cardiac arrest in which the continuation of organized electrical activity in the heart is not accompanied by a palpable pulse or effective circulation of blood.

Pulsed lavage
The irrigation of a tissue surface or body cavity with intermittent sprays or splashes of fluid. It is used in several procedures to reduce the bacterial burden of contaminated surfaces, but it may occasionally cause tissue damage or infection if nonsterile solutions are accidentally employed.

Pulsed-dose oxygen delivery
A means of oxygen conservation in which oxygen flow is s provided to the patient in the first third of inspiration, instead of continuously throughout the respiratory cycle.
