  • Plateau pulse

    A pulse associated with an increase in pressure that slowly rises but is maintained. The extended pulse observed in cases of aortic stenosis.  

  • Pistol-shot pulse

    A pulse resulting from rapid distention and collapse of an artery as occurs in aortic regurgitation. The pulse generated by the swift expansion and contraction of an artery, typically seen in aortic regurgitation. It creates a noise reminiscent of a gunshot when listened to with a stethoscope.  

  • Peripheral pulse

    A pulse recorded in the arteries (radial or pedal) in the distal portion of the limbs.  

  • Paradoxical pulse

    Pulsating; characterized by a rhythmic beat.

    Conversion into a pulpy substance.  

  • Putrescent pulp

    Dead pulp that has a foul odor because of the action of anaerobic bacteria.  

  • Pulp extirpation

    The complete removal of the pulp tissue from the pulp chamber and root canal, irrespective of the state of health of the pulp.

    An apparatus for inducing artificial respiration by forcing air or oxygen into the lungs.
