  • Pressure index

    A method for determining the extent of obstruction to the artery in the leg by measuring the blood pressure in the arms and legs and then dividing the systolic pressure in the leg by that in the arm.  

  • Pressure bandage

    A bandage which presses on a part of the body. A bandage for applying pressure; usually used to stop hemorrhage or prevent edema.

    To keep something from rotting. Fruit preserved by boiling it with sugar to a condensed consistency is known as a preserve. Unlike jam or marmalade, the fruit pieces in preserves are typically kept intact rather than being mashed or cut up.

    The ageing of the body or brain before the expected time, with a person showing symptoms which are usually associated with people of very advanced years. Premature aging of the mind and body, so that a person shows the reduction in mental and physical abilities normally found only in old age.

    An illness developing in the workplace from exposure to chemicals, e.g. mercury poisoning, or to dangerous activities, e.g. decompression sickness.
