  • Product date

    A date printed on some food packages that is an estimate of how long the product is usable.  

  • Prodromal stage

    The first stage of an illness, during which the person may be contagious.  

  • Postpartum period

    A period of adjustment for parents and their newborn infant that begins with delivery and lasts about six weeks.  

  • Physical peak

    The state of having one’s physical abilities at their maximum levels.  

  • Physical abuse

    Punishment that leaves a mark that can be seen the next day.  

  • Pessimist

    A person who focuses on the negative side of things and expects an unfavorable outcome. People who generally have global expectations for negative outcomes.  

  • Perfectionist

    A person who has extremely high standards and accepts nothing less than excellence of himself or herself.  

  • Passive smoker

    A smoker who involuntarily breathes side-stream smoke.  

  • Pseudo-exacerbation

    A temporary aggravation of disease symptoms, resulting from an elevation in body temperature or other stressor (e.g., an infection, severe fatigue, constipation), that disappears once the stressor is removed. A pseudo-exacerbation involves symptom flare-up rather than new disease activity or progression.  

  • Progressive-relapsing MS

    A clinical course of MS that shows disease progression from the beginning, but with clear, acute relapses, with or without full recovery from those relapses along the way.
