  • Residue-free diet

    A diet without cellulose or roughage. Semisolid and bland foods are included. Low-residue diets are used to prepare the colon for barium enemas or colonoscopy and occasionally to help manage Crohn’s disease.  

  • Reducing diet

    A diet designed to help people lose weight (i.e., a diet with a restricted number of calories and a carefully crafted balance of other nutrients).

    Identification of an illness by the interpretation of radiographic findings.

    A granulomatous cyst located alongside the root of a tooth.

    A method for detecting the presence of microorganisms in a sample body fluid or tissue in which the metabolism of infecting organisms is demonstrated by their incorporation or release of specifically radiolabeled chemicals in the culture medium, e.g., carbon dioxide labeled with 14C.
