  • Spinal dysraphia

    A general term applied to failure of fusion of parts along the dorsal midline that may involve any of the following structures: skin, vertebrae, skull, meninges, brain, and spinal cord.

  • Secondary dysmenorrhea

    Painful menses that manifest some years after menarche. The diagnosis is strongly suggested by a history or finding of use of an intrauterine device, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, uterine leiomyomas, adenomyosis, fertility problems related to imperforate hymen, cervical stenosis, ovarian cysts, or pronounced uterine retroflexion and/or retroversion.  

  • Shifting dullness

    A mobile area of decreased resonance found during percussion of a body part as the body changes position. The finding suggests that fluid is contained within a body cavity and that it moves with gravity.  

  • Sublingual duct

    Any of the secretory ducts of the sublingual gland.  

  • Striated duct

    One of a class of ducts contained within the lobules of glands, especially salivary glands, that contain radially appearing striations within the cells, denoting the presence of mitochondria.  

  • Spermatic duct

    The secretory duct of the testicle that later joins the duct of the seminal vesicle to become the ejaculatory duct.  

  • Street drug

    A drug obtained illegally. A street drug is usually a drug of abuse. A substance obtained from an illicit drug dealer, which can either be a legal substance unlawfully sold without a prescription or intended for non-medical purposes, or it can be an illegal substance prohibited from possession.  

  • Self-adhering roller dressing

    A rolled gauze strip made of a material that adheres to one side of the gauze. It comes in various widths.  

  • Sublethal dose

    A dose containing not quite enough of a toxin or noxious substance to cause death.
