  • Tectonic keratoplasty

Use of corneal tissue to replace that lost because of trauma or disease.

  • Traumatic keratitis

Keratitis caused by a wound of the cornea.

  • Thermal keratitis

Damage to the cornea resulting from a burn.

  • Tight junction

A part of the junctional complex at the lateral interface between epithelial cells; also called zonula occludens.

  • Tarsometatarsal joint

A joint composed of three arthrodial joints, the bones of which articulate with the bases of the metatarsal bones.

  • Tendon jerk

The contraction of a muscle after tapping its tendon.

  • Toxic jaundice

Jaundice resulting from chemical injury to the liver or sepsis.

  • T-wave inversion

In electrocardiography, the changing of the normal upright (convex) appearance of the ventricular repolarization to a concave tracing in which the concavity is depressed below the isoelectric line. T-wave inversion is often associated with ventricular hypertrophy, ventricular ectopic beats, and coronary ischemia, among other conditions.

  • Temporal average intensity

The amount of therapeutic ultrasonic energy delivered to tissues over a given time. The temporal average intensity is calculated by multiplying the spatial average intensity by the percent duty cycle (e.g., 20 w/cm2 X 50% duty cycle = 1 w/cm2 TAI). The temporal average intensity is meaningful only during the application of pulsed ultrasound.

  • Transtracheal insufflation

The introduction of oxygen into the trachea during mechanical ventilation in order to decrease dead space.
