Cephalexin

An antibiotic used to treat infections of the urinary system or respiratory tract.


Oral cephalosporin antibiotic with a spectrum of antibacterial activity similar to that of cephalothin. Well absorbed but rather less active than the injected form of the drug.


Oral cephalosporin antibiotic, commonly prescribed for mild to moderately severe in fections of the lungs, ears, skin, urinary tract, and throat. Adverse effects include diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.


An antibacterial drug; a cephalosporin antibiotic available in capsules, tablets, and liquid. Cephalexin (Keflex, Keftab) is a first-generation cephalosporin active against many gram-positive organisms, including staphylococcal organisms and organisms that cause pneumonia. It is also active against some gram-negative organisms, including Escherichia coli, and it can be used to treat respiratory and urinary tract infections, as well as skin and middle ear infections. Cephalexin may also be used to treat infections of the bone and skin.


A semisynthetic antibiotic, administered by mouth, used in the treatment of a variety of infections.


A first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is effective against gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria.
