A swelling found mainly on the head of babies delivered with forceps.
A significant, soft enlargement on the scalp of a newborn infant is referred to as cephalhematoma. This condition arises from bleeding occurring within the space between the skull and its fibrous covering, known as the periosteum or pericranium, due to the pressure exerted on the baby’s head during the birthing process. The swelling itself is neither painful nor grave in nature, gradually diminishing over time, although this resolution may require several weeks to occur.
