Cerebrosides

Are glycosphingolipids which are important components in animal muscle and nerve cell membranes.


A ceramide with a sugar residue as a head group. This is a complex lipid in nerve and other tissues. A cerebroside is a sphingolipid.


One of a group of compounds occurring in the myelin sheaths of nerve fibers. They are glycolipids, containing sphingosine, a fatty acid, and a sugar (usually galactose or glucose).


A lipid or fatty substance present in nerve and other tissues.
