Client

A person visited by a health visitor or social worker.

A person who receives professional services. In health care, a client may or may not be sick.

The patient of a health care professional.

The recipient of care: an individual, family, group, or community. When the client is an individual, the focus is on the health state, problems, or needs of that person. When the client is a family or group, the focus is on the health state of the unit as a whole or the effects of the individual’s health state on the other members of the unit. When the client is a community, the focus is on the personal and environmental health states and the health risks of population groups. Nursing actions for clients may be directed toward disease, illness, or injury prevention, health restoration, or health maintenance.
