Colonization

Formation and establishment of population groups of the same type of microorganism, such as in the periodontal pocket.

The growth of microorganisms, especially bacteria, in a particular body site.

The existence of bacteria on a bodily surface, such as the skin, mouth, intestines, or airway, without inducing illness or disease in the individual.

The proliferation of foreign organisms, such as bacteria, within a host’s body is referred to as colonization. It is important to note that this process is not inherently harmful. Additionally, the term “colonization” is also employed to describe the growth of cancer cells in a distinct area, separate from the primary tumor, to which they have spread.
