Commissure

A meeting point or junction between two anatomic structures, such as the corners of the mouth.


The place of joining (e.g. the faces of joining carpels).


Bundle of nerve fibers passing from one side to the other side of the brain or spinal cord.


A structure which joins two similar tissues, e.g. a group of nerves which crosses from one part of the central nervous system to another.


Meeting place of two structures in the midline, such as the lips; also a band of nerve fibers passing across the midline within the central nervous system.


A bundle of nerve fibers that crosses the midline of the central nervous system, often connecting similar structures on each side.


Commissure means a joining, and is a term applied to strands of nerve fibres which join one side of the brain to the other; to the band joining one optic nerve to the other; to the junctions of the lips at the corners of the mouth, etc.


A transverse band of nerve fibers passing over the midline in the central nervous system.


A group of fibers connecting opposite, matching components.
