Hypertrophy resulting from increased function of an organ because of a defect or impaired function of the opposite of a paired organ.
An organ grows in size to enhance its function, especially when one of a pair, like a kidney or lung, is removed. The remaining organ expands to compensate for the function previously carried out by both.
