Computed axial tomography (CAT)

Imaging technique that uses a combination of X‐rays and computer technology to generate a three‐dimensional, panoramic, or cross‐sectional image of a bodily structure. Data acquisition is through a series of scans along a single axis of a bodily structure, in implant dentistry parallel to the occlusal plane. It can be used for the treatment planning of dental implants with software‐based planning.
