Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) (syn)

Helical cone beam computed tomography, Spiral cone beam computed tomography. Imaging technique that uses a cone‐shaped X‐ray beam to acquire multiple images of a patient. Images are captured on flat panel detectors or image intensifiers. Volume data can be acquired in a single rotation of the beam and the detector, at reduced radiation exposure. It can be used for the treatment planning of dental implants with software‐based planning. Machines are often classified as large volume (20 cm height and 15 cm diameter cylinder) and small volume/limited view (40 × 40 mm2 or 60 × 60 mm2) based on the exposure area.
