Conjugated estrogen

Female sex hormones used to treat symptoms of menopause. Conjugated estrogens are also used to treat vaginitis, osteoporosis, and breast and prostate cancer. While they are useful for treating symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and dizziness, the long-term use of estrogen is risky. Increased risk of heart disease, stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure, gallbladder disease, and endometrial cancer are all associated with the long-term use of conjugated estrogens. If a woman has no major risk factors for heart disease, a gynecologist may provide hormone replacement therapy for a brief period to relieve symptoms.

An estrogenic drug, principally estrone and equilin, used to treat menopausal symptoms and to prevent osteoporosis.
