Conjunctiva

The mucous membranes of the eyes and eyelids.

The thin and transparent layer of epithelial tissue covering the eye.

A membrane which covers the front of the eyeball and the inside of the eyelids.

Delicate outer layer of the eye.

Thin, transparent membrane that lines the eyelids and portions of the underlying eyeball.

Mucous membrane surrounding the eyeball and posterior surfaces of the eyelids; plural is conjunctivae.

The thin mucous membrane that lines the inside of the eyelids and covers the white, exposed surface (sclera) of the eye. Cells in the conjunctiva produce a fluid that helps lubricate the lids and the cornea to keep the eye moist.

The delicate mucous membrane that covers the front of the eye and lines the inside of the eyelids. The conjunctiva lining the eyelids contains blood vessels but that over the front of the eye is transparent.

The mucous membrane that lines the eyelids and is reflected onto the eyeball.

The thin, moist membrane that covers the front part of the sclera and the inside of the eyelid.

The ocular surface, comprising the conjunctiva enveloping the sclera and lining the palpebral fissure, constitutes the intricate membranous structure responsible for protecting and lubricating the eyes.

The conjunctiva is a clear membrane that covers the sclera (the white part of the eye) and lines the inner surface of the eyelids. Within the conjunctiva, specialized cells generate a fluid that serves to lubricate both the eyelids and the cornea.

The mucous membrane that envelops the front surface of the eyeball.
