Contact dermatitis

Local allergic reaction provoked by skin contact with chemical substances that act as antigens or haptens.

An inflammation of the skin that results from contact with material to which a person is allergic.

Inflammation of the skin caused by touch, e.g. by touching some types of plant, soap or chemical.

Contact dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin that follows contact with various irritants and allergic substances. Contact dermatitis is differentiated according to the causes of the skin condition. The skin reacts with itching, tenderness, blistering, and swelling.

Skin rash resulting from exposure to an irritant such as an alkali or acid (in, e.g., a cleaning product) or to a substance to which one has an allergic response (e.g., poison ivy).

Skin inflammation caused by an irritant coming in contact with the skin.

A skin reaction caused by exposure to an external agent. In allergic contact dermatitis, there may be no apparent inflammation the first time a person is exposed to the substance. But on subsequent occasions, after the skin has become sensitive or allergic to the substance, exposure produces a skin eruption. Allergic contact dermatitis differs from irritant contact dermatitis. Irritant contact dermatitis is a rash caused by contact with any substance, such as strong soaps or detergents, that produces skin inflammation in most people. Many substances can be both irritants and allergens.

Inflammation and irritation of the skin due to contact with allergens or an irritating substance. Allergic contact dermatitis is caused by a T-cell- mediated hypersensitivity reaction to environmental allergens, either natural or synthetic. These combine with skin proteins, altering the normal self-antigens so that new, foreign antigens are created. Nonallergic contact dermatitis, also known as irritative contact dermatitis, is usually caused by exposure to a detergent, soap, or other skin irritant.

An inflammation of the skin caused by having contact with certain chemicals or substances; many of these substances are used in cosmetology.

Contact dermatitis is a condition characterized by the inflammation of the skin due to direct contact with an allergen or any other substance that induces irritation.
