A surgical procedure designed to increase the extent of supragingival tooth structure, primarily for restorative purposes, by apically positioning the gingival margins with or without the removal of supporting bone.
A periodontal procedure often performed for esthetic purposes in which excessive gum tissue is surgically removed in order to expose more of the surface of the teeth. The procedure is also performed to expose caries that lie beneath the gingiva and to restore length to teeth damaged by trauma.
