Trauma due to force applied to tissues so they are disrupted or compressed, but with minimal or no frank lacerations. If there is no bleeding, cold should be applied; if the wound is bleeding, application of the dressing should be followed by cold packs until the patient can be given definitive surgical treatment. If the bone is fractured, a splint should be applied.
