Cyclical vomiting

Repeated attacks of vomiting.

Recurring vomiting episodes, known as period vomiting or bilious attacks, typically manifest at regular intervals and usually start between the ages of three and seven, although onset can occur as late as eleven years old. These episodes often resolve spontaneously during puberty, although some individuals may go on to develop migraines. There is typically a strong family history of migraine or bilious attacks in the parents of these children. The consensus among experts is that these children have an unstable nervous system, which, when combined with poor carbohydrate digestion, contributes to their condition. The primary approach to managing these children involves providing ample rest, addressing their nervous condition, increasing their carbohydrate intake, and reducing dietary fat. An old-fashioned but effective treatment involves offering them unlimited quantities of barley sugar to eat, along with the possible use of sedatives to calm nervous excitement and instability.
