Cystourethrography

X-ray examination of the bladder and urethra.

A test done with special equipment under sterile (surgical) conditions to investigate disorders of the urinary tract. A thin, lighted tube called a cystoscope is passed through the urethra and into the bladder. Telescopic lenses allow inspection of the internal urethral and bladder tissues. A local anesthetic is given before the start of the procedure. Such conditions as stones in the bladder, polyps, tumors, an enlarged prostate, and strictures of the urethra may be diagnosed.

Radiography of the bladder and urethra by use of a radiopaque contrast medium.
