Deaf

A category for persons who have hearing losses greater than 75-80 dB, who have vision as their primary sensory input, and who cannot understand speech through the ear.


Not able to hear in circumstances where most people would.


In general, a term referring to people with hearing so severely impaired that it cannot be used for the ordinary purposes of life, with or without a hearing aid. When hearing is impaired but can be used for the ordinary purposes of life with the use of a hearing aid, a child is generally termed hard of hearing.


Partially or completely lacking the sense of hearing.
