Denudation

The process of removing the covering from any surface. In periodontics, often refers to removal of all soft tissue overlying the bone.

Removal of a layer or cover through surgery, disease, or trauma; often used in reference to the skin. Severe skin infections may cause loss or sloughing of skin; the affected area is said to be denuded. A person without protective gear who falls off a motorcycle may denude portions of the body. Sometimes, a superficial layer of skin is removed by sandpaper or chemical means to treat acne or remove a tatoo (dermabrasion).

Removal of a protecting layer or covering through surgery, pathological change, or trauma.
