Dietary guidelines for Americans

Published jointly every five years since 1980 by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA), these guidelines provide authoritative advice for people two years and older about how good dietary habits can promote health and reduce risk for major chronic diseases.


A list of nine key messages based on the preponderance of scientific evidence that are designed to help Americans make good decision regarding their lifestyle choices.


Recommendations issued periodically and revised in 2000 from the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion at the U.S. Department of Agriculture for planning and eating a healthy diet.


A set of diet and lifestyle recommendations developed to improve health and reduce nutrition-related disease risk in the U.S. population.


The United States Department of Health and Human Services has put forward dietary recommendations that aim to provide explicit guidance on how following good dietary habits can positively impact one’s overall health and decrease the risk of contracting major chronic diseases.
