Diphenhydramine

An antihistamine medication used in general medical practice to treat cold or allergy symptoms and pruritus (itching) and used in psychiatry as an anxiolytic or to treat sleep distur bance. Marketed under the brand name benadryl.


Antihistamine drug used to treat hay fever and other allergic reactions involving the nasal passages and also, sometimes, to treat motion sickness and to produce sedation.


An antihistamine drug that has many properties. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is used to relieve symptoms of allergic reactions such as rash, hives, watery eyes, runny nose, itchy eyes, and sneezing. It is also used to treat motion sickness, anxiety, tension, and sleeplessness and to relieve certain side effects caused by some psychiatric drugs.

Additionally, it is used to alleviate temporary sleep disturbances and can be found as an ingredient in certain cough remedies. Possible side effects of diphenhydramine include drowsiness, dry mouth, and blurred vision.
