Discectomy

Removal of the intraarticular disk. It typically refers to removing the meniscus or intraarticular cartilage in a joint.

Surgical removal of a herniated intervertebral disk.

A surgical intervention involving the partial or complete removal of a damaged intervertebral disc. Discectomy is employed to alleviate the symptoms associated with disc prolapse, which occurs when an intervertebral disc ruptures and a portion of its soft inner core protrudes outward. By relieving the pressure exerted on nerves or nerve roots by the protruding tissue, discectomy provides relief.
