Doppler Echocardiography

A technique that calculates stroke volume from measurements of aortic cross-sectional area and time-velocity integration in the ascending aorta.

The use of ultrasound technology to determine blood flow velocity in different locations in the heart, but especially across the heart valves.

This is an examination that evaluates the blood flow within the heart using ultrasound, which employs high-frequency sound waves. By placing an ultrasound transducer on the chest in the heart region, the waves generated by the transducer bounce off the blood, creating echoes that are captured to create an image of the blood flow. Through this process, medical professionals can determine the direction and velocity of the blood flow.

Doppler echocardiography is a non-invasive procedure that can be utilized to examine certain heart and circulation conditions, such as abnormalities in the heart valves. The process is painless and typically lasts between 15 to 30 minutes to complete.
