False memory

A memory that distorts an actual experience or that is a fictional creation of the imagination. In some cases, false memory involves errors in remembering details of events. Dreams can be confused with reality and later recalled as if they were actual events. False memories may also arise from prodding or leading impressionable individuals, particularly children.
