An agency of the federal government which serves as the focal point for twelve other organizations’ efforts to be prepared for all kinds of emergencies, natural or otherwise. FEMA’s planned response to such an event is embodied in the “Federal Response Plan”. The agency’s stated mission is to reduce the risks, strengthen support systems, and help people and their communities prepare for and cope with disasters regardless of the cause.
